The 2008 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival ice palace was designed as a "Hurray for Hollywood," in keeping with the Winter Carnival theme.
The entire ice complex was formed from 2,017 blocks of ice and a pyramid forms a battlement at the entrance to the palace courtyard. A great deal of the labor involved in constructing the ice palace is provided by inmates from nearby Camp Gabriels which is slated for closure by New York State Dept. of Corrections.
