Eight-month-old Isabella Hulkow of Peru savors a bite of cake fed to her by her mom, Samantha, during the grand opening of the Nature’s Way Baby Cafe in the House of Prayer at 63 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. Formerly Nature’s Way Mother’s Cafe, the concept was developed by Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital Alice T. Miner Women and Children’s Center, the Clinton County Health Department and Behavioral Health Services North with grant funding through the New York State Department of Health as a drop-in breastfeeding site that provides a place for moms with nursing babies to connect with others and receive support and instructions from lactation specialists. The Baby Cafe — the first in the region — is a part of the nonprofit Baby Cafe USA, a national initiative to provide free, evidence-based lactation and support. The cafe is open the second Tuesday and fourth Thursday of each month. For more information, including hours of operation, call 518-562-7532.
