Read MoreAn automatic fire alarm at Panera Bread in Consumer Square prompted response from Town of Plattsburgh District 3, Morrisonville, South Plattsburgh and City of Plattsburgh fire departments and Clinton County Deputy Fire Coordinator Mike Cahoon at 10:46 a.m. Thursday. “They had a light smoke condition inside the building,” District 3 Fire Chief R. Scott Ewing said. Crews conducted a thorough sweep of the building’s interior and exterior but found no active fire. They believe the smoke originated in the grill area, Ewing said, though the exact cause is unknown. The smoke dissipated as the departments investigated. Ewing commended Panera’s management for evacuating the restaurant and making sure all employees were accounted for. All crews were back in service around 11:30 a.m.
