A grand piano, brought from North Dakota with SUNY Plattsburgh first lady Lisa Lewis, occupies the corner of the Great Room, used for public gatherings. Since the 1950s, the windows have been replaced with energy efficient ones and the bookcase nooks that used to balance the sides of the windows have been closed off, allowing for more wall display space. The same side chairs also appear in an early photo of the room.
